A Series: What it’s like to work at Wejungo – Amelia Anderson

Which of the core values of Wejungo resonate most with you?

Learning mindset has to be the value that stands out the most to me. I don’t know if I have gone a week at Wejungo over the years without learning something new. It is amazing what we can accomplish when we are open to new ideas and ways to do things!

Another core value that resonates with me personally is Accountability. Wejungo has provided me with so many opportunities to learn and develop in ways that I never thought I wanted. At the end of the day, I am accountable for what I do with those opportunities. It’s the ultimate “you get out of something what you put in”. And that goes both ways. Wejungo has put a lot of effort into training me and other employees, and the results from that have been beautiful growth and positive impact with client projects.

Why did you choose to work at Wejungo?

Wejungo offered growth, structure, and opportunity that I was not seeing at any other company. And I was interviewing with a lot of companies. When I was interviewing, I got to meet a lot of the team, see the culture, and experience a little bit of the projects. I really appreciated the effort they put in to making sure I was a fit for them and that they were a fit for me. In my final interview, Susie shared some areas I could grow into at her company and was very honest about what she could and could not offer. Since then, I have continued to be given those opportunities to grow.

What do you like best about working at Wejungo?

From the beginning, I have always felt trusted and valued at Wejungo. So many processes have changed at Wejungo since I started because people keep having great ideas. It’s amazing how fast we can make change happen when we come up with a better way to do things. Those ideas come from everyone, and ideas are implemented into client projects all the time. I don’t see that in many companies.

We are all accountable for our projects and as long as the work gets done, it’s okay if you start later or end later as long as you are there for the team and doing your job, there is flexibility. I can’t count the number of days I started a little earlier so I could go do something fun with my family, or just get things done around the house. I get to spend all day with my dog and go on a walk in my neighborhood if I need a break.

How has Wejungo helped you grow as a professional?

There are so many skills that I have learned over my time at Wejungo. Something that touches at the core of every project is curiosity. It is amazing how much candidates and clients alike will open up if you ask the right questions. Ask for stories, examples, ask about them and their passions. It really is an art and people can feel when you are not being genuine.

Project management is another amazing skill that I have developed over the years. Constantly looking forward to what it takes to get something done, the importance of following up on timelines, and pulling in others to review if you need help. It is a delicate dance to be able to see a project through to fruition, especially if it doesn’t go the way you want it to. And when does it ever?

What are your favorite projects to work on and why?

Wejungo is really great at keeping all of us in the know about what is happening at the company. Each month, I get to create what we call a Monthly Team Update that shows the team all the projects we are working on, all our upcoming events, team announcements, and future projects that are coming soon. Transparency is so huge at Wejungo and I love knowing what projects the team is working on and seeing the impact we are making in our community.

I also really enjoy hearing about the amazing qualities of our candidates through reference checks. Our reference checks are so thorough I get to hear so many stories about what makes candidates unique, special, and why or why they may not be a great fit for their new opportunity.  Reference checks are one of the things most companies skip doing and that is such a costly mistake.

What is your proudest moment at Wejungo?

I recently was a part of leading a Leadership workshop series over the course of 12 months. That was a great experience to be a part of and see what the participants learned over the year working with us. I was able to lead some of those workshops and begin that conversation with them on how to be better leaders.

I am always proud to see members on our team get signed off on new projects. I love being a part of that journey and being able to give them feedback that helps them grow and continue learning.

What is a favorite memory you have at Wejungo so far?

We have done some fun team building activities and events at Wejungo. I love seeing how the teams’ personalities come out when we are eating together, making cocktails, volunteering, or kayaking down a river. These events are always super fun, and they help us bond as a team in a really special way. One of my favorite events was making homemade quesadillas!

I also love hearing about the success stories we have with our clients. I am not always client facing, so it is awesome to hear the stories about how much value we bring to our clients. The team always lights up when they talk about a client they really love working with.

Why is the work that Wejungo does with companies so impactful?

Wejungo truly takes on the identity of our clients for each project. We don’t set out to change the things that make our clients unique, but we adjust our processes to find what we can add to make their company even better. I am continuously impressed by the resources we provide to our clients just by asking the right questions.

What are the reasons you choose to stay at Wejungo?

There are countless chances to be exposed to new and different things at Wejungo. All our projects are so interesting and there are always chances to try new things or bring new value to our clients. It is great to see how quickly we can implement new ideas into what we bring to our clients.

The people are another big part of our culture. Everyone is so nice and so supportive. I always feel like I can depend on my team to help support me. I also love the little ways Leadership makes us all feel appreciated. I still laugh about the 5 pound bags of candy that have shown up on unsuspecting front door steps, just because.
